FSPD taking applications for Youth Safe Driving Program
Fort Smith, AR - The Fort Smith Police Department is excited to announce the launch of the Youth Safe Driving Program. This new program is designed specifically for newly licensed drivers aged 16 to 18. The initiative aims to enhance driving safety and equip young drivers with the skills needed to navigate the roads confidently and securely.
Program Overview:
Duration: The program runs from the first week of September 2024 until the last week of April 2025. Schedule: Classes will be held every Thursday from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Note: Sessions will not take place during Winter Break, Thanksgiving Break, and Spring Break. Eligibility: Applicants must be between 16 to 18 years old and possess a valid learner's permit, an intermediate license, or a graduated license. Participants are required to have auto insurance that meets or exceeds state requirements, access to their own safe and functional vehicle, and must sign a waiver of claims.
How to Apply:
If interested, contact the Fort Smith Police Department's Traffic Unit for an application and to complete necessary waivers. Applications can be requested via email at trafficunit@fortsmithpd.org or obtained in person at 100 South 10th Street.

Participants in the Youth Safe Driving Program will gain invaluable knowledge and experience from a CLEST-certified resource. Moreover, completion of the program may qualify young drivers for discounts through their auto insurance providers (participants should verify eligibility for discounts directly with their insurance companies). Above all, our students will have the tools to make Fort Smith a safer community for motorists of all ages.
