Fins, Feathers and Flowers - Special Issue

If you are interested in learning more about wildlife, and enjoy getting out in nature, the Fins, Feathers and Flowers event held at Lakepoint State Park, February 17-19 is perfect for you. This annual weekend event is loaded with a variety of activities for wildlife watchers and features a weekend overnight package. All of the programs are cooperative efforts of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources - State Park Division, Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Fins, Feathers and Flowers Weekend Presenter Spotlights

Allyson Andrews – Alabama Beekeeper of the Year and Owner of Wildly Blessed – Ally is affectionately called the “The Crazy Bee Lady” and has a long history of sharing her passion of beekeeping with others. She will share with you the importance of bees, and by the end of this program you will want to be a BEEkeeper yourself.

Valerie Castanza - Founder of Raptor Ridge Wildlife Education, shares her experience of 15 years working with birds of prey. Through this live birds of prey presentation, she will inspire us to be good stewards of the environment and develop a passion for protecting our natural resources through conservation. This will be a fun and interactive presentation.

Traci Wood - State Wildlife Grants Coordinator, ADCNR Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division will be sharing amazing pictures and stories as she talks about black bear research conducted with Auburn University. You won’t want to miss her adventures of crawling through briars, diving deep into dens, and coming face to face with the cutest little furballs alive!

Conservation Fair

Individual booths will be set up Friday afternoon for you to explore various Conservation organizations across Alabama.
Meet our Southwestern District Naturalist, Kelly and our Gulf State Park Assistant Naturalist, Nancy. They will be available to answer your nature questions and will be bringing some of their Education Animal Ambassadors for you to meet.

Photography Workshops

Are you interested in learning more about bird photography? Join Alabama The Beautiful Magazine editor Beth Cowan Drake to learn about the best gear, settings and process for getting tack-sharp images of moving or stationary birds. These classes are for beginners to intermediate and are the perfect opportunity to learn some basic skills of bird photography.
