Memorial Day is coming up and we want to remind our supporters of the #ParksforPatriots Veterans program at the #AlabamaStateParks. This voluntary program allows park visitors to provide free admission for veterans through sponsorship contributions. We are proud to provide this program as a tribute to all of the men and women who have provided us the freedoms we enjoy today. Visit alapark.com to learn more about this new program and how you can be a sponsor.

* Ask about the #ParksforPatriots program while visiting any state park.
* Honoring our Veterans by providing free entrance into parks 365 days a year.
* Veterans must show a valid form of I.D. - DD214, driver's license or retired military I.D.

* Sponsorship donations can be made online 24/7 and at most park point-of-sale locations.

The #AlabamaStateParks are proud to be a partner of the #100ALMiles Challenge. Be Active, Go Explore, & Connect with others through the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge at 100alabamamiles.org. You will earn digital badges for milestones reached and places visited, and you can share your experiences with other participants through the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge Facebook and Instagram pages.

Don't forget to purchase a new Alabama State Parks car tag in 2018. Last names that begin with the letters H and O renew during the month of May. Last names names that begin with M and I renew in June. This is a new form of much needed revenue for us. Yet another great reason why the Amendment 2 victory was so important to us. Now, this money stays where it belongs-at the parks. Watch the video.

Starting April 1st all boat owners will be able to purchase a State Park boat registration. Follow the same procedures for past registration, just simply ask for the #AlabamaStateParks decal. Like the car tag, this is a new form of much needed revenue for us.

The weather is warming up, travel season is here and we offer affordable, family-friendly events like the ones below:

Attention all horseback riders! Join us Saturday, May 19th for the BCHA Trail Ride at Oak Mountain State Park. $15 per rider and a low-country boil lunch will be served at Camp Tranquility. Look for BCHA Logo. Check out this cool video.

Join Alabama State Parks staff and volunteers for Great Outdoors Day at DeSoto State Park on June 2nd. This event event showcases all the many ways that adventures can be had in the Great Outdoors. Come out to enjoy the park with demonstrations, live animal education programs, info tables, guided fitness & nature hikes……and much more!

Congratulations to our own Lamar Pendergrass on being chosen as one of the State’s two Executive Branch Employee of the Year winners! Lamar is the Alabama State Parks Division Operations and Maintenance South Section Chief. His passion for our State’s great outdoors and for connecting Alabama’s citizens and guests with our beautiful natural resources is evident in all he does. Awesome job Lamar!
