Functional Classification update for Alaska's Urban Collectors

Dear Subscriber,

The statewide update of Functional Classification for Collectors in Urban Areas is complete!

A recent change to FHWA guidelines required further classification of all Urban Collectors statewide. All Collectors in Urban areas must now be sub-classed as either Major or Minor Collectors.

Planners at DOT&PF headquarters and in each region examined all affected routes and assigned a Major or Minor Collector Classification.  The classifications recieved approval from FHWA on October 16, 2013.

DOT&PF's database has been updated and now reflects this Major/Minor classification.  An interactive GIS map of statewide Functional Classification can be found here.
