CDPHP Announcement - Safe and Healthy Me - Be Safe, Be Seen Alaska!

Safe and Healthy Me

Be Safe, Be Seen Alaska!

We are rapidly gaining daylight (Hooray!), but the hours of darkness still outnumber the hours of light.

Did you know that if you’re wearing reflectors you can be seen by a car at 500 feet (one and a half football fields) away? When you’re just wearing white clothing you will only be seen at 180 feet away, this doesn’t give a driver enough time to react when going 60 miles per hour.

So remember when you’re out and about:
Make sure to wear reflectors to protect yourself and your loved ones while being active outside during Alaska’s long nights!

Introducing Safe and Healthy Me!

Here in Alaska, there's a place online to find out how to prevent injuries, and prevent and manage chronic health conditions. Those conditions may be related to weight gain, tobacco use or cancer.

That place is Safe and Healthy Me.

There are many resources to help us be as healthy and safe as possible. Many of these tools are right here in Alaska. To learn more go to the Safe and Healthy Me web site

Stories from Alaskans

A big component of Safe and Healthy Me is Stories from Alaskans. Alaskans are making changes. They are taking steps - small and large - to improve their health.

They are making time for physical activity, choosing to eat healthy foods, and losing weight. They are scheduling important health screenings to catch diseases early, when they are often easier to treat. They are signing up for free classes in their communities to improve their balance and their fitness.

We hope their stories will inspire and empower you in your journey to become safe and healthy.

Visit Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion for more information about the section and our mission to identify and advance the conditions that lead to safe and healthy lives for Alaskans.
