New Mandatory Training for Alaska EMS Clinicans
4 Hour - Online Traffic Incident Management Training
The Alaska Office of EMS (OEMS), in partnership with the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHA), now offers a free, online 4-hour Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Course.
Effective April 2025, completion of this course will be required for EMT-1 through Paramedic:
- Initial EMS certification or license (including out-of-state comity licensing)
- Recertification or renewal of license.
While some may feel this training is more relevant to urban environments, key principles—such as vehicle placement, blocking, signaling, scene exposure time, and situational awareness—apply in all settings, from highways to remote trails or village intersections, and whether in a $500k apparatus or on a snow machine.
EMS applications in Alaska will be updated to reflect this new requirement.

Access TIM Responder Training
From April 2025, EMS educators must provide students the QR Code or hyperlink to the online training course. Students will then need to complete the training and present the U.S. DOT/ FHA certificate for initial certification or license with the Alaska OEMS.
