Becoming a Harm Reductionist
Callan Fockele, MD, from Harborview Medical Center, in Seattle, presented on harm reduction inside and outside the emergency department. The presentation also discussed the Council of Expert Advisors on Drug Use (CEADU), which is composed of local people with lived experience. Dr. Fockele is working with CEADU to create an implementation toolkit that integrates take-home naloxone, buprenorphine treatment, and HIV/hepatitis C testing into first-responder programs while also adapting the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) model to improve encounters between first responders and people who use drugs.

Whole-Person Care for People Experiencing Homelessness and Opioid Use December 9, 9:00-10:15am AST
This two-part series hosted by the Northwest Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network, is based on a 2021 SAMHSA toolkit. Part 1, held on December 2, provided an overview of selected content from the toolkit; Part 2 features a facilitated panel conversation among individuals in recovery from mental health and substance use challenges. Aegis Science Corporation, Cornerstone Recovery & National Association of Social Worker's Alaska Chapter are hosting this meeting to support the Anchorage recovery community in identifying drug trends and assisting with strategies to aid medication adherence, avoid adverse drug events, and prevent human tragedy. It will feature Richard Tucker, a former Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. Mr. Tucker’s experience provides unique perspective on many issues, including property crime, organized crime, and trafficking and use of drugs at the local, regional, and international levels.
