Statewide Suicide Prevention Council Quarterly Meeting November 8-9, 1:00-4:30pm AKST (Public Comment Nov 9th 2:15-2:45pm)

“Reimagine Trauma” November 16-18, 6:30am-12:45pm AKST
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is hosting this virtual event to bring together leading organizations to elevate crisis response and coordinate federal and state advocacy efforts to establish and fully fund our country’s crisis response systems, including the 9-8-8 emergency line going live in July 2022.

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day Activities November 20
International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is an event in which survivors of suicide loss come together to find connection, understanding, and hope through their shared experience. Non-Loss Survivors may also attend. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Alaska Chapter (AFSP-AK) is hosting events in Anchorage, Juneau and Toksook Bay.

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) HIV/STD Prevention and Substance Misuse Prevention programs continue to host free virtual gatherings to discuss harm reduction strategies and resources in Alaska. The goal of these trainings is to support, inspire and learn from one another to increase the well-being of individuals in our communities.

Co-Occurring Behavioral Health Opioid and Stimulant Use Disorders ECHO Launch November 3-April 20, 12:00-1:00pm AKDT

The Alaska Training Cooperative is seeking feedback from behavioral health professionals for their new Family Services Training Center on topics, treatment models, and foundational skills that are most necessary or applicable in providing behavioral health care to families in Alaska.

Alaska Eating Disorder Alliance (AKEDA) Launches Adult Support Group Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm AKST (beginning November 4)
The Alaska Eating Disorders Alliance (AKEDA) offers a free and confidential support group for Alaskans aged 18+ who are either currently experiencing an eating disorder or want support in their recovery. This support group is available to participants across the state and is facilitated by clinicians and counseling students. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Solicitation for Applications: SAMHSA’s GAINS Center Seeks Agencies and Communities to Develop Trauma-Informed Training Capacity
The GAINS Center is offering a series of Train-the-Trainer (TTT) events to teach local trainers to deliver its “How Being Trauma-Informed Improves Criminal Justice System Responses” curriculum. Target audiences for this training program are primarily community-based criminal justice system professionals, including law enforcement, community corrections (probation, parole, and pre-trial services), court personnel, as well as human service providers that serve adult justice-involved populations.

FASD and the Brain-Based Approach November 4, 11 & 18 and December 2 & 9, 3:00-5:00pm AKST
Families Affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FAFASD) is hosting this 5-week course to help families, caregivers, and professionals working with individuals with FASD to create a plan for success. The webinar will offer facts and figures, information on diagnosis, primary and secondary characteristics of FASD, accommodations and environmental change, barriers to implementation, and planning for support.

New Name: FASD United
The 30-year old organization formerly known as National Office on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) has officially changed their name. Their mission remains the same, “to prevent prenatal exposure to alcohol, drugs, and other substances known to harm fetal development by raising awareness and supporting women before and during their pregnancies” and supporting “individuals, families, and communities living with FASD and other preventable intellectual-developmental disorders.”

This conference seeks to improve knowledge and skill in providing child welfare services in Alaska. Adverse Childhood Experiences, Intimate Partner Violence, and Sexual Violence Among Alaska Mental Health Trust Beneficiaries: Findings from the Alaska Victimization Survey
The Alaska Justice Information Center (AJIC) at the University of Alaska Anchorage has released this report which used data from the 2020 Alaska Victimization Survey (AVS) to estimate the extent to which victims of intimate partner violence and sexual assault were Alaska Mental Health Trust beneficiaries. It also estimated the extent to which Alaska Mental Health Trust beneficiaries experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
