  • If you are currently an Independent Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) you need to get a new NPI
    • The new NPI is a Type 2 NPI that defines you as a group. This will allow you to be part of the Alaska Medicaid Behavioral Health Group that can receive payment for your services
    • You will keep your Individual Type 1 NPI. This allows you to affiliate to your own or other groups

The Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) has contracted with Optum, an Administrative Services Organization (ASO) to provide claims processing for behavioral health Medicaid covered services.

Each independent provider is required to register and set up your financial information to receive payment from Optum for services you will provide to eligible Medicaid recipients. If you already have an Optum ID because you bill an Optum commercial account, you will be able to use that same Optum ID for your services with Alaska Medicaid.

If you have not registered with Optum yet, please go to https://alaska.optum.com/ to sign up for provider alerts and to view the provider training that will guide you to register and set up your agency. When registration is complete you can submit your claims and correspondence to Optum.

Services that may be provided by an LPC and fee schedule may be found on the DBH website http://dhss.alaska.gov/dbh/Pages/Resources/Medicaidrelated.aspx
