35 new cases of COVID-19 in Alaska; 16 residents, 19 nonresidents

June 23, 2020 ANCHORAGE — The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) today announced 35 new cases of COVID-19 in Alaska. Sixteen are residents of eight communities: Anchorage (9), Bethel (1), Fairbanks (1), Girdwood (1), Homer (1), combined Hoonah-Angoon Census Area and Yakutat Borough (1), Nome (1) and Palmer (1). Also added to the data dashboard today was a case in Wasilla which was identified on June 21. This brings the total number of Alaska resident cases to 778.

Nineteen new nonresident cases were also identified in:

  • Municipality of Anchorage (1): one in a visitor
  • Fairbanks North Star Borough (2): two in the mining industry
  • Ketchikan Gateway Borough (2): two in the seafood industry
  • Valdez-Cordova Census Area (2): two in the seafood industry
  • Dillingham Census Area (12): 12 in the seafood industry

This brings the total number of nonresident cases to 129. The City of Dillingham announced yesterday the 12 seafood workers in that region were identified during their employer’s testing protocols. All of the individuals were in quarantine at the time they were identified and are now in isolation on the company’s closed campus.

Of the new Alaska resident cases identified yesterday, eight are male and eight are female. One is aged 10-19; four are aged 20-29; three are aged 30-39; four are aged 40-49; three are aged 50-59 and one is aged 60-69. There have been a total of 63 hospitalizations and 12 deaths with one new hospitalization and no new deaths recorded yesterday. Recovered cases now total 502, with 11 new recovered cases recorded yesterday. A total of 92,947 tests have been conducted. The average percentage of daily positive tests for the previous three days is 0.96%.
