Two new cases of COVID-19 reported in two Alaska communities;
one out-of-state case

May 7, 2020 ANCHORAGE — The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) today announced two new cases of COVID-19 in Eagle River (1) and Kenai (1). This brings the total case count to 374.

These cases reflect data from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on May 6 that posted at noon today on the DHSS Coronavirus Response AK COVID-19 Cases and Testing Dashboard.

Today’s case count does not include the new case in Cordova, announced yesterday by the Unified Command and the City of Cordova, as it is not counted as an Alaska case since the person is not an Alaska resident. However, it is included on the data dashboard as an out-of-state case and DHSS investigates the case, conducts contact tracing, and works with the community to protect the safety and health of everyone involved.

Of the two new Alaska cases, one is a female and one is a male. One is aged 20-29 and one is aged 30-39. There have been a total of 38 hospitalizations and 10 deaths with no new hospitalizations or deaths reported yesterday. Recovered cases now total 291, including seven new recovered cases recorded yesterday. A total of 24,341 tests have been conducted.
