DEED Seeks Resolution to Maintenance of Equity Compliance Dispute with U.S. Department of Education
JUNEAU, AK -- Today the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) regarding Alaska's compliance with the American Rescue Plan Act's maintenance of equity (MOEquity) provision.
"We stand firm in our resolve that Alaska's school funding formula is equitable as it equalizes rural and urban communities," said DEED Commissioner Dr. Deena Bishop. "My hope is that the USDOE and all stakeholders here at home can better understand Alaska's approach to education funding and how MOEquity applies in our rural and urban communities."
In addition to outlining why the USDOE is inaccurate in its assessment that Alaska was out of compliance with the first-of-its-kind "maintenance of equity" requirement instituted as a part of ARPA, DEED has requested a meeting with the USDOE to quickly resolve the issue.
