Three Alaska Schools Awarded 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools
JUNEAU, AK – The U.S. Department of Education recognized three schools in Alaska for their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments or their overall academic performance. Across the nation, 353 schools were named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023.
Recipients of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award demonstrate effective and innovative teaching, dedication to high standards, community engagement, and appreciation for valuable teachers and staff.
The Alaskan awardees were:
- Bear Valley Elementary School of Anchorage School District,
- Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School of Sitka School District, and
- Fronteras Charter School of Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District.
All three schools were nominated and awarded in the category of Exemplary High Performing Schools.
"I am exceptionally thrilled to hear the announcement of Alaska's Blue Ribbon Schools. This high honor demonstrates the hard work and success of Alaska's educators, students, and families. Congratulations and celebrations are due for their demonstrated academic achievement!" said Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) Commissioner Dr. Deena Bishop.
"Congratulations to the teachers, administrators, support staff, and the families of each of these three schools," said Governor Mike Dunleavy. "As a former educator, I've seen the difference a great school can make in a child's life. Thank you to everyone who has worked to make these schools stand out as National Blue Ribbon Schools."
The awardees will receive a National Blue Ribbon School flag as a symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
DEED congratulates and commends the three Alaska recipients - Bear Valley Elementary School, Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School, and Fronteras Charter School - for the hard work of their students, educators, families, and communities in striving for academic excellence.
