Two Alaska Schools Recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools
JUNEAU – Today the U.S. Department of Education announced that two Alaska elementary schools are among the 297 schools nationwide recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022.
The two recipients are Huffman Elementary School in the Anchorage School District, and Delta Junction Elementary School in the Delta/Greely School District.
The National Blue Ribbon School recognition is based on either a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Both schools in Alaska were recognized as exemplary high-performing schools.
“It is an honor to recognize these two Alaska elementary schools for their outstanding work,” said Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy. “As a former educator, I saw firsthand how important it is to prepare your classrooms for success. Congratulations to the students, parents, and educators of Huffman Elementary School and Delta Junction Elementary School. This award is well-deserved.”
“This recognition is the result of both the professional excellence and personal dedication of the teachers, support staff, and administrators at Huffman Elementary and Delta Junction Elementary, as well as the support of families and the community,” said DEED Acting Commissioner Heidi Teshner. “Thank you all for your commitment to the students of Alaska.”
With its 39th cohort, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for – and attaining – exemplary achievement.
