CDC Released New Resources
On May 27, 2022, the CDC released updated Operational Guidance for K-12 School and Early Care and Education Programs to Support Safe In-Person Learning. This guidance is aligned with the COVID-19 Community Levels that the CDC released earlier this year. The updated guidance has recommendations for prevention strategies for everyday operations, as well as those to use when an outbreak occurs. It also includes considerations to inform decisions about when to add or remove prevention strategies, and which ones to prioritize. Remember that district mitigation plans must be updated at least every 6 months and take into consideration the most recent guidance from the CDC. For more information regarding district mitigation plans, please see DEED’s FAQ, page 2.
In addition, the CDC also released the following resources and materials aligned with this updated guidance:
School Meals
As USDA free meal waivers expire June 30, 2022, keep in mind that in some cases COVID Relief Funds may be used to provide meals to students. Please reach out to DEED.CARES@alaska.gov if you have questions about this allowable activity.
Reminder: FY 2023 COVID Applications Open
The FY2023 COVID Relief Applications are now open. Districts have been given $1 for ESSER II and $1 for ESSER III. You may budget activities for a penny each as placeholders for now. When you complete your FY22 FER, your actual carryover amounts will be automatically loaded to the FY23 application. If you have any questions about allowable activities, please email your program manager directly, or reach out to us at DEED.CARES@alaska.gov.
Reminder: Webinar Materials from May 5th
If you missed the presentation on May 5th, here is a link to the recording. Passcode: 3dZTtST? The slides can also be found here.

New Resources!
Based on feedback from districts, DEED is working to create more resources to assist in meeting the requirements of the ESEA. Two such resources related to Title I-A are now available on our Title I-A Parent and Family Engagement webpage –
Title I Parent Notification – this document contains all the parent notification requirements of Title I-A in a table format. The table describes the notification, when it is to be sent out, the audience of the notification, and whether it should come from the district or school. It also contains links to templates that we currently have on our website.
Title I Brochure – this template brochure is meant to be customized to individual schools. The template contains several pieces of information for parents that are required under Title I-A. Consider using this brochure for your Title I schools as one method of disseminating the required information. The brochure could be displayed at the school front desk, posted on bulletin boards, mailed home to families, uploaded to school webpages, or even posted to social media.

Preparing MIS2000 for the New School Year
Beginning July 1, DEED will be working to prepare MIS2000 (desktop and web system) for the 2022-23 school year. To do this, DEED will:
- Delete all unapproved 2021-22 COEs and ARCs.
- Deactivate all district staff user accounts in the web system. Accounts will be reactivated/created starting in August once the 2022-23 user agreement forms are submitted to DEED.
- Organize the district Resource Folders in the web system (i.e., delete old resources and reports).
Please keep this information in mind as July approaches.
Reminder: Migrant Funded Summer Programs
If your district is planning on providing Title I-C funded services during the summer (regardless of if it crosses fiscal years), please notify Adam Hoffnung-Warantz.
Reminder: Fall Training Registration is Open
Registration is open for the 2022 Migrant Education Program fall training season. Please contact Jannessa Luerra with any questions.

Online ACCESS for ELLs Score Reports Available
ACCESS for ELLs score reports are now available in WIDA AMS. Please note that score reports are currently only available for schools whose materials were returned on time.
WIDA has created a guide, Interpretive Guide for Score Reports, to help stakeholders understand ACCESS for ELLs scores. There is also an Alternate ACCESS-specific guide for score reports. WIDA’s Family Engagement page includes resources specifically for helping families understand ACCESS results.
Reporting ELs Who Did Not Take the ELP Assessment in Summer OASIS
While districts and schools are obligated to annually assess the English Language Proficiency of all ELs, we understand that some students may not be assessed for a variety of reasons outside of the district’s control. If your district have ELs that were not administered the ACCESS for ELLs assessment, please remind the appropriate individual(s) in your district to complete the “ELP Not Assessed Reason” data element in Summer OASIS. More information can be found in the 2022 Summer OASIS Handbook (see pg. 17-18, Data Element 26).
