SBA is bringing the Emerging Leaders 200 Initiative (e200) and its MBA-style program to eastern Missouri small businesses for the third year.  This initiative for entrepreneurs has been a catalyst for expanding opportunities to almost 1,300 small business owners across the United States.  Over the past two years, 22 exceptional local participants have graduated from the program.

The free seven-month course begins in April in St. Louis.  It includes approximately 40 hours of classroom time per participant and provides the opportunity for small business owners to work with experienced mentors, attend workshops and develop connections with their peers, city leaders and financial communities.  Participants in the program will graduate with a clear three-year strategic plan for long term growth and strategies to achieve size and scale.

Ideal participants are energetic, growth-minded entrepreneurs who find their businesses have plateaued and want to expand to the next level.  This training is for established business owners and is not for start-ups or people who are thinking about starting a business.  The e200 advanced training series is open to small business owners and executives that:

  • Have annual revenues of at least $400,000
  • Have been in business for at least 3 years
  • Have at least one employee, other than self

The e200 Initiative incorporates a curriculum that is research-based enabling participating businesses to engage in focused development and expansion strategies, including options for accessing new capital and securing government contracts.
Participants will have the opportunity to work with experienced mentors, attend workshops, and develop connections with their peers.  Key program highlights include:

  • Customized training for “C” (CEO, COO, CFO, etc.) level executives
  • Three-year strategic growth action plan with benchmarks and performance targets to help the participant emerge as self-sustaining businesses that creates jobs and build communities
  • Includes 100 + hours of professional specialized training & peer-to-peer counseling delivered over the course of seven months

“Commitment and hard work help in achieving your goal, but anything that can cut the time is a smarter way to achieve it,” says Sekhar Prabhakar of C-Edge Software Consultants.   “Programs like e200 help you focus on where you need to invest your time in your business, to gain a better understanding of your business and needs.”  Juan Kuanfung of Quanteq, Inc., shared, "The E200 program provided a valuable process that ensures all issues in the business are thoroughly addressed and achieved.  Their comprehensive approach, business worksheets and interaction with other CEOs empowered me, as an entrepreneur, in the art of doing business!"  Gloria Carter-Hicks of Hicks-Carter-Hicks, LLC, stated, “The best part of the program was learning from others and the networking.  The CEO groups were very beneficial.  I found a board member as a result of my CEO group.  Great sharing, learning and networking.  In addition, the section on finances was extremely helpful and enlightening.  I enjoy having our work reviewed by a lawyer and accountant.”

The St. Louis District Office is currently recruiting businesses to participate in the program.  There are a limited number of spaces available for this exciting and proven course.  For more information, contact Angie Wells at angela.wells@sba.gov or 314-539-6600, extension 223.
