U.S. Small Business Administration Office of 8(a) Business Development7(j) Management & Technical Assistance Program is Available to Nebraska Small Businesses

How it works:

Just like a class you’d attend in person, courses are taught by a live instructor on a scheduled day and time. The web-enabled instructor-led training experience has much in common with the classroom equivalent. 

Students:

  • Receive course materials in advance
  • Participate in real time using a broadband connection
  • Interact directly with the instructor and their peers
  • From your computer, you’ll link to an instructor in a live, real-time, interactive learning experience. You’ll become part of a virtual classroom where you can ask questions, seek guidance and participate in class discussions and small group exercises.

February 6 and 7 – Construction Contracting

February 19 and 20 – Marketing and Capture Management

February 21 and 22 – Financial Management for Government Contractors

February 25 and 26 – E-Commerce and Internet Business Strategies

February 27 and 28 – Proposal Preparation


All workshops are from Noon to 3 p.m. Central time

Participants must attend both sessions to receive a certificate

What is the 7(j) Program?

Section 7(j) of the Small Business Act authorizes SBA to enter into grants, cooperative agreements or contracts, with public or private organizations that can deliver management or technical assistance to eligible individuals and enterprises. This assistance is delivered to 8(a) certified firms, small disadvantaged businesses, businesses operating in areas of high unemployment or low-income or firms owned by low-income individuals. 

Each year, the United States government spends hundreds of billions of dollars in goods and services purchases from private firms. To foster an equitable federal procurement policy, government-wide small business goals, in terms of a percentage of annual expenditure, are established for federal agencies. SBA negotiates the goals annually with each federal agency on an individual basis. Currently, the overall prime contracting small business goal is 23%. This includes the specific goals of 5% to Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSB), 3% to Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (SDVO) small businesses, 5% to small disadvantaged businesses, and 3% to HUBZone firms.

Under the Small Business Act, federal agencies conduct a variety of procurements that are reserved exclusively for small business participation. These transactions are called "small business set-aside . These set-asides can be for small businesses in general or specific, for HUBZone certified firms, 8(a) certified firms, Service Disabled Veteran-owned small firms, or once implemented, those firms participating in the Women’s Small Business Contracting Program.
