WASHINGTON – Last year small businesses nationwide faced challenges recovering from economic losses caused by disasters like Hurricane Sandy, tornadoes, and the drought that affected much of the continental United States. All told, 11 disasters in 2012 caused $1 billion or more damages.
Eastern Missouri is certainly no stranger to natural disasters. Earthquakes, floods, droughts, tornadoes, ice storms, and fires are some of the notable disasters we experience locally. Right now there is genuine concern over the continuance of barge traffic on the Mississippi.
Is your business ready for a disaster? Have you checked your insurance policies lately? Do you have a contingency plan in place? Where are your essential documents? Is your data backed up at an offsight location? These are just a few of the questions you should ask yourself to see if you are prepared for a disaster? There is truth in the adage, "Failing to plan is planning to fail."
