A message from District Director Manuel Gonzalez

SBA-backed lending in the new fiscal year continues to rebound.  Lending so far in the first quarter of the new fiscal year is ahead of the pace at the same point a year ago.  SBA recorded more than 12,900 loans for more than $5.5 billion in approvals during the quarter.  The Houston District posted a similar trend with 242 loans totaling more than $129 million in approvals to small businesses in the Houston area.  

Overall, the pace of SBA loan-making is a healthy sign for the economy and the credit markets and is one of the foundations for ensuring the availability of financing to small businesses trying to establish themselves, grow and create new jobs for Americans.

Houston District Hosts Inter-Agency Small  Business Convening

Inter-Agency Small Business Convening

On December 11, 2012, the Houston District hosted an Inter-Agency small business convening with the FDIC to stimulate small business lending.  FDIC Community Affairs Specialist Emerson Hall and District Director Manuel Gonzalez led the meeting with a group of small business owners, lenders, and resource partners to explore and provide solutions to issues that small businesses are facing regarding the constraint of the availability of credit.  

Houston District Recognizes Top SBA Lenders for Fiscal Year 2012 

The Houston District recognized the fiscal year 2012 top ten SBA lenders and top three Certified Development Companies at the HAGGL (Houston Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders) luncheon in December.  With the help of the lending community, the Houston District posted a stellar fiscal year supporting $678.10 million in loans to small businesses.
