I know you’re out there and it’s time for you to shine.  We’re searching for entrepreneurs to represent each state in the South Central Region during the 2013 National Small Business Awards event.  South Central Region serves more than 3.3 million entrepreneurs in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

These awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the success of small business owners who start each day with creativity to overcome obstacles and challenges, and with perseverance to keep moving forward creating jobs for themselves and others while strengthening the economy of our nation. 

District and Regional Awards

South Central Region will recognize award winners in the following categories.  These nominees will first compete at the District level and winners will be submitted for Regional award competition:

  • Small Business Exporter of the Year
  • SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year  
  • Family-Owned Business of the Year
  • Entrepreneurial Success Award
  • Home-based Business Champion of the Year
  • Financial Services Champion of the Year 
  • Minority Small Business Champion of the Year
  • Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year
  • Women in Business Champion of the Year
  • SBA 8(a) Graduate of the Year – for recent 8(a) program graduates
  • Small Business Develop. Center Excellence and Innovation Award
  • Women’s Business Center of Excellence Award

National Awards

During National Small Business Week in June, the SBA will recognize winners in the following categories.  Regional award winners in these categories will advance to the National competition.  Nominations for these awards may be submitted online here, or you may contact your District office awards coordinator, listed below, for more information.

  • National Small Business Person of the Year (chosen from among state award winners from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam)
  • Phoenix Awards (recognizing outstanding accomplishments during disaster recovery)
  • Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year
  • Small Business Subcontractor of the Year
  • The Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence (recognizes large prime contractors who have used small businesses as suppliers and contractors)
  • SBA 8(a) Graduate of the Year
  • Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Award
  • Women’s Business Center of Excellence Award
  • Veterans Business Outreach Center Excellence in Service Award (nominations of SBA-funded Veterans Business Outreach Centers)

Two Ways to Nominate Award Winners

Award categories listed above which are only recognized at the District and Regional level, must be submitted to the District Office point of contact listed below.  Nominees for national award categories can be submitted online, for the first time through an SBA Award Nomination Portal.  For more information about nominations and award categories, including the criteria for each award, please contact the District office awards coordinator listed below.

SBA's new online learning center has a streamlined, searchable catalog of small business educational resources including self-paced courses, videos and web sessions.  Topics include information on startup how to’s, marketing, financing, contracting and more.

Recent SBA Lending Activity

During Fiscal 2013 which began Oct. 1, 2012 to Dec. 21, 2012,

SBA has assisted 1,107 small businesses in the South Central Region with loans totaling $517,683,800.  Business approved for these loans report creating or retaining 13,523 jobs.
