Nominate an Entrepreneur or Business Advocate for an SBA Award

The SBA South Carolina District Office is currently accepting nominations for the 2013 state small business awards, which include both entrepreneurship and advocacy categories. The deadline to submit a nomination is January 3, 2013.

Major South Carolina awards include:

  • Small Business Person of the Year
  • Small Exporter of the Year
  • Family Business of the Year
  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year
  • Veteran Entrepreneurship Advocate of the Year
  • Women in Business Advocate of the Year

SBA Launches Online Learning Center for Entrepreneurs

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week last month, SBA launched an online small business learning center. The new learning center features a searchable catalog of small business educational resources, including self-paced courses, videos and web sessions. Clifford Smith, president of Small Business Group, Inc., a North Charleston construction and environmental management firm, practices what he calls "macro-management." He's departmentalized each business responsibility and implemented weekly staff meetings. The result? A more efficient company that's more responsive to customers.

"I've seen so many small companies that can't [grow] because the owner wants to do everything," Clifford says. "That's inefficient. You have to let your people do what they do best."

District Office Announces New Lender Relations Specialist

The SBA South Carolina District Office welcomes Frank Anderson, Lender Relations Specialist, to our team. Previously, he was Assistant Vice President - SBA Express Loan Specialist at Bank of America. 

An Army veteran, Mr. Anderson also has a background in credit, risk management, mortgage underwriting, and business and real estate financing.

Mr. Anderson joins Gregg White and Gail Newton in the office's lender relations division. His territory encompasses the Upstate.
