SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program Explained

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will conduct a FREE seminar to explain the 8(a) Business Development program eligibility for small businesses seeking federal government contracts.  The 8(a) Business Development Program provides business assistance for small disadvantaged businesses compete in the market place. Prerequisites include at least 2 years in business, a product or service to sell to federal agencies, registration in GSA’s System for Awards Management (SAM) database and a DUNS number.  Eligibility for this certification will be discussed along with information on free technical assistance available from Del Mar College Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). The seminar is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the SBA Office, 3649 Leopard Street, Suite 411, Corpus Christi, TX 78408.  Registration begins at 8:45 am.  Seating is limited & seminar is subject to change. SBA Veteran Workshops in the Hiring Red White and You Job Fair

The SBA Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office will host four workshops from 12pm-2pm in cooperation with the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) and ACCION Texas, November 15, 2012 at the McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Blvd., McAllen, TX 78501 to start off the Hiring Red, White, and You Job Fair hosted by the Workforce Solutions.

The workshops will assist and provide veterans with information on how to start up, succeed, and grow their own business. There are so many programs and services available to help veterans become self-employed, make sure to take advantage and come by to get informed!

SBA 8(a) BD Program Certification Application Process

Is your business ready to seek greater opportunities through federal contracts?

SBA along with the UTPA PTAC will be hosting a first-of-its-kind hands-on lab sessions.  The first lab will begin on Tuesday, November 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the CESS Building (formerly the Haggar Building), located at 1407 East Freddy Gonzalez in Edinburg, TX, in Room 1.235.  These hands-on labs will give you a chance to fill out the entire application step-by-step, troubleshoot any issues, and get advice from knowledgeable staff as you are going through each step.  There will be approximately 15-classroom hours, over a three week span.  All computer equipment and material will be provided on site.  CLASSROOM SEATING VERY LIMITED….Only 10 businesses will be accepted.  Your business must meet certain requirements before acceptance.  For more information, please contact Gilbert Soliz at (956) 427-8533 x228 or Maria Perez at x242.
