In honor of Veterans day the Colorado District Office wants to help those that served our country with their new business venture. The event features a Veteran owned small business owner, SBA resource partners, Q&A, and networking.

This helpful overview seminar geared specifically toward Veterans covers the necessary steps to successfully launch your new business venture. Bring your questions about launching your business and meet other Veterans who are doing the same!

Speakers:

Andra Hargrave

Veteran Andra Hargrave helps SBDC clients with their government contracting strategy. He has 15 years of direct governmental contracting and Fortune Level 500 business development experience. He possesses an in-depth knowledge of state and federal set-aside procurement programs and has been contracted by companies of every certification designation including tribally owned companies, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and companies seeking to commercialize within SBIR/STTR grant programs. Hargrave is also a business consultant for the Small Business Transportation Resource Center, co-located with the Denver Metro SBDC. Hargrave is a certified NxLeveL instructor.

James Hurley

James hurley is the President of JE Hurley Construction, Inc. located in Colorado Springs Colorado. Before starting JE Hurley Construction, Mr. Hurley served in the Air Force for 20+ years after graduating from Colorado State University.During his time in the military, Mr. Hurley was the Director of Contracting for Air Force Special Operations Command where he oversaw infrastructure development.  He also taught classes at the Air Force Academy – leadership; ethics and general business principles. Mr. Hurley’s military experience continues to be invaluable in running his company.  Military life taught him how to handle adversity and “take the high road”, skills he continues to instill in his employees.

Join the SBA and AARP for our 2nd Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day! This event is to help entrepreneurs and potentials entrepreneurs who are 50+.  The event features inspirational stories and Q&A from our guest speaker, business counseling and networking with us and our resource partners.

Guest Speaker: Corey Marshall

We are inviting Corey Marshall, a new encore entrepreneur of Tivoli Distributing Company who brought back Colorado's Historic, Tivoli Beer. Corey is a Colorado Native and has previously worked for large corporations in service and vendor management, marketing, strategic finance, strategic initiatives, mergers & aquisitions, sales and more. He has recently retired from the corporate world to pursue his passion as an entrepreneur

Did you know?

Currently there are over 76 million Baby Boomers in the country and many are interested in and poised to be entrepreneurs. New research found that one in four Americans between the ages 44 and 70 are interested in starting their own a business or nonprofit venture in the next five to 10 years. Nearly half of these aspiring entrepreneurs reported a desire to be “Encore Entrepreneurs”, a business with a positive social impact. 

For many Baby Boomers, entrepreneurship training is the toolkit that empowers them to use their experience, knowledge, and skills to become job creators.  Entrepreneurship training focuses on helping experienced professionals leverage their career knowledge for a new business.  This Encore Entrepreneur Event is an opportunity for the SBA and its partners to leverage AARP’s network to introduce existing and future encore entrepreneurs to existing resources.  There will be a networking opportunity for participants after the event with small business counselors from our resource partner network to answer any questions about small business assistance through the SBA resource partner network.
