Grand Opening of Subway Restaurant, a result of a Patriot Express Loan Not even the rain scheduled in yesterday's forecast was going to put a damper on this Young Veteran Entrepreneurs dream to open up his first Subway franchise. The SBA staff along with representatives from Webster Bank who facilitated a Patriot Express loan were all present to support CDR Michael A. Thomas in opening his restaurant in West Haven, CT. Along with the Connecticut SBA delegation were several elected officials, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, East Haven Mayor Richard Picard, and State Rep. Steve Dugard. CDR Thomas launched his current initiative - a program to actively recruit, train, and employ veterans in the Subway franchising business. CDR Thomas's military experience includes multiple combat deployments in support of a range of operations from Operation Allied Force (Kosovo) through Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal and Defense Meritorious Service Medal among others.
