In honor of National Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day, the SBA Houston District and SCORE, a resource partner of the SBA, hosted a lunch and learn Low Cost Marketing workshop followed by an Access to Capital panel discussion on October 2nd.   

The event, held at the Palm Center with standing room only, was targeted at entrepreneurs over the age of 50 to link “encore entrepreneurs” with community resources for advice and assistance.  SBA and SCORE provided the training and mentoring services older entrepreneurs need to successfully start and grow businesses and create jobs.  National Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day was part of a larger effort by SBA and AARP to promote entrepreneurship among individuals ages 50 and older.

Houston District Director Manuel Gonzalez announced the top 3 Houston lenders at the 18th annual Mid America Lender's Conference held in August at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston, Texas.  

BBVA Compass received the Houston District 7(a) High Volume Lender award, Wallis State Bank received the Houston District Rising Star award, and Capital Certified Development Corporation received the Houston District 504 High Volume Certified Development Corporation award.  Lenders were rated on their accomplishments from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. 

The conference, hosted by the Houston Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders (HAGGL), included discussion forums, SBA hot topics, SBA education and updates, and networking among lenders, industry service providers, and SBA personnel.
