B&W Pantex, the 2012 SBA National Frances Perkins Vanguard Award Winner to be Honored by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the SBA West Texas District Office
Chamber Reception to Celebrate Prestigious Award
 On May 21, 2012 B&W Pantex once again entered the national stage by receiving the prestigious Frances Perkins Vanguard award in Washington D.C. during the National Small Business Week celebration.  Last year B&W Pantex was honored with the National Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for having the most outstanding record in support of small business contracting.  This year, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) honored B&W Pantex with the Frances Perkins Vanguard Award for the having the most outstanding record in the federal procurement sector for best utilizing women-owned small businesses prime and subcontractors during the preceding fiscal year.  Frances Perkins was a social reformer and the first woman to serve in a cabinet-level position and served as Secretary of Labor from 1933-1945.  The Frances Perkins Vanguard award is presented each year by the Administrator of SBA.   This year B&W Pantex CEO, John Woolery, traveled to Washington with Pantex Small Business Program Manager, Brad Brack, to receive this award from SBA Administrator Karen Mills.
Calvin Davis, District Director of the West Texas District Office of SBA states “it is an honor to have B&W Pantex as a procurement partner in Amarillo and in West Texas.  This region is fortunate that B&W Pantex remains committed to affording local firms with wonderful opportunities to utilize their skills and services, and to prosper in the business world.”  It is significant to report that out of $111 million in procurements issued during 2011, B&W Pantex directly awarded $20 million (18%) in subcontracts to Women-Owned small businesses. “We are proud of the positive impact we have been able to generate in the small business community and honored to be recognized for that effort,” said B&W Pantex General Manager John Woolery.
On June 14, 2012 at 5:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M., the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the West Texas District Office of SBA will specially honor B&W Pantex for receiving the coveted Frances Perkins Vanguard Award for Excellence.  The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce will host the reception at their office located at 1000 Polk Street, Amarillo, Texas.  
All Amarillo and surrounding area media is invited and encouraged to attend and cover this event.

 May 25, 2012 -- The U. S. Small Business Administration announces the winners for the Lubbock District.  This year marks the 49th annual proclamation of National Small Business Week, and we will be saluting the achievements of the district winners at various locations throughout the district. 
The 2012 Small Business Week award winners for the Lubbock -West Texas Lubbock District are: 
Small Business Person of the Year:  Michael Ramirez of  High Plains Contractors & Management Group, Inc., Dumas, Texas
Financial Services Champion:  John Steinmetz of Vista Bank, Lubbock, Texas
Minority Small Business Champion: Joyce Denise Ayers of Neeecee’s College of Cosmetology, Abilene, Texas
Women In Business Champion:  Maria Valeriano of Maria Valeriano Insurance Agency, Odessa Texas
