May 19th has been designated as National Hepatitis Testing Day in the United States. Millions of Americans have chronic viral hepatitis but many do not know they are infected since they do not look or feel sick. Yet, over time, approximately 15%–25% of people with chronic viral hepatitis develop serious liver problems – such as liver damage, cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer – and African-Americans are twice as likely to be infected with hepatitis C compared to the general U.S. population. Learning if one is infected is key to diagnosing chronic viral hepatitis early and getting appropriate medical care. Register: www4.gotomeeting.com/register/732051727 |
