On the Move: Make it in America Exhibit

As part of the Make it in America campaign and our efforts to highlight the importance of American Manufacturing, NIST MEP is excited to inform you that the Make it in America exhibit has a new temporary home at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC.

The Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, attracting over a million visitors a year, is a landmark building located in the center of all of DC’s numerous monuments, museums and attractions. Owned by the U.S. General Services Administration and operated by Trade Center Management Associates, the Ronald Reagan building is the first and only federal building designated for public and private use. The Make it in America Exhibit is located at the mezzanine level of the building and will remain there for a year.

Business Continuity Plan

Can your clients stay in business after a disaster? History shows that a lack of awareness, planning and preparation are common themes among all major natural disasters. By knowing your vulnerability and what actions you can and should take, you may be able to reduce the effects of a disaster. NIST MEP, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, has launched an easy-to-use business continuity planning (BCP) software. The software is scalable for optimal use by organizations of any size and consists of business continuity plan training, automated BCP and disaster recovery plan (DRP) generators, and a self-directed exercise for testing an implemented BCP. Businesses can utilize this solution to help maintain normal operations during a disruption.

For more information about BCP and to download this valuable software visit MEP's BCP page. For questions, please contact Samm Bowman (Samm@nist.gov | 301-975-5978)

SelectUSA Investment Summit

The US Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration is hosting the first-ever SelectUSA Investment Summit on October 31-November 1, 2013 in Washington, DC. This event is a federal-led business recruiting effort that will connect foreign and domestic investors, senior Administration officials, and state and local economic development organizations.

The event is fitting to MEP when you consider that 33 percent of the $2.5 trillion in foreign direct investment in the United States supports the manufacturing sector. Approximately one-fifth of all U.S. exports come from U.S. subsidiaries of foreign firms. Over 460 MEP clients in 2011 were affiliates of foreign-owned companies.

MEP at both the federal and local levels has been increasingly involved in supporting international business attraction. The Investment Summit is a good place to continue that work.

For more information visit the event page at selectusa.commerce.gov. For questions, please contact Mark Schmit (mark.schmit@nist.gov| 301- 975-3255)
