1.  IRS Seeks Applications for Advisory Committee for the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division

The Internal Revenue Service is seeking applications for vacancies on the Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT). The committee provides a venue for public input on relevant areas of tax administration.

2.  Seminars from the 2012 Forums Now Available at IRS Nationwide Tax Forums Online

The IRS today reminds tax professionals that they can earn continuing professional education credits online through seminars filmed at the 2012 IRS Nationwide Tax Forums. The 15 self-study seminars are now available on the IRS Nationwide Tax Forums Online (NTFO). Self-study seminars provide information to students using interactive videos, PowerPoint slides and transcripts.

4.  IRS Clarifies Temporary ITIN Application Requirements for Certain Noncitizens, Many Foreign Students

On Oct. 2, the IRS implemented clarifying changes to its temporary procedures for issuing ITINs for noncitizens with tax extensions and many foreign students.

5.  YouTube: Oct. 15 Tax Deadline

If your clients asked for an extension to file their 2011 tax returns, the IRS reminds you that the deadline is Oct. 15, in this YouTube video.

6.  Electronic Management System Columbus Day Power Outage

The Electronic Management System  (EMS), located at the Enterprise Computing Center in Martinsburg, W. Va., will be unavailable from Saturday Oct. 6 at 9:00 p.m. ET through Tuesday Oct. 9 at 5:00 a.m. ET.

This will affect individual, business and state returns processed on the EMS located in Martinsburg.

Also, drains will not occur on Monday Oct. 8 at Martinsburg or Memphis. Normal processing will resume Tuesday Oct. 9 at 5:00 a.m.
