ED Set to Honor the First Ever U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools 

On June 3rd and 4th the Department will honor representatives of the 2012 U.S. Department of Education Schools.  Watch the plenary session live, with remarks from ED Secretary Duncan, EPA Administrator Jackson, and CEQ Chair Sutley here at 8:30 am EST Monday, June 4th.

 

16 States Have Indicated Their Intent to Nominate Schools for 2013 Awards 

Even before 2013 nomination criteria have been published, 16 state education agencies across the nation have indicated their intent to nominate schools to ED for the 2013 competition.  See which states are already intending to participate here.

  

National Healthy Lunch Finals Held at ED

While you may not consider West African succotash, home-style tortilla apple pie or lemon pepper chicken with brown rice standard fare for a school cafeteria, a group of culinary chef students hope to re-write cafeteria menus to prove that school lunches can be both delicious and nutritious. Congratulations to the 2012 School Design of the Future Winners

In the days following the Secretary’s announcement of the first ED-Green Ribbon Schools, six teams of students met in Washington, DC to compete in the final leg of The School of the Future Design Competition.  The annual competition challenges students to design schools that enhance learning, promote health, reduce environmental impact and engage the community.  Read about next year’s competition>>>
