Job Summary:
This is an appointment under the DOL Recent Graduates program. The program duration is one year. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency's discretion, the appointee may be converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service. To be eligible , applicants MUST meet one of the following requirements: a. Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution on or after December 27, 2010(eligibility under this provision expires July 10, 2014); OR b. b. Was released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years, where the applicant is a veteran who, due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying for a recent graduate position during any portion of the two-year eligibility period following completion of his/her degree or certificate requirements, provided that not more than six years have transpired since the applicant completed the requirements for his/her degree or certificate. Academic transcripts (in English) MUST be submitted to demonstrate eligibility and in order for your education to be considered as a basis for meeting the minimum qualification requirements of this position. The Department of Labor does not recognize academic degrees from schools that are not accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education. Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service. If courses were taken at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, or from several different colleges or universities, you MUST submit all the necessary transcripts. If your education was completed at a foreign college or university, you MUST show comparability to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States and comparability to applicable minimum course work requirements for this position. The entire duration of the Recent Graduate Appointment constitutes a trial period. Appointee MUST be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the program. The primary mission of the Employee Benefits Security Administration ( EBSA ) is to plan, direct, and administer a comprehensive enforcement program over a broad geographic area to ensure maximum compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act ( ERISA ), as amended, and related civil and criminal statutes. The security of retirement funds and the availability of employer-sponsored health care are matters of widespread concern to American workers today. EBSA protects the pension, health, and other employee benefits of over 150 million participants and beneficiaries in private sector employee benefit plans. To help assure the integrity and effective management of the private pension and health benefit plan system, EBSA assists workers in understanding their rights and benefits, educates plan sponsors and officials about their statutory responsibilities to prevent violations from occurring, and deters and corrects violations of the law where health benefits and pension security are at risk. Comprehensive investigations are conducted to determine if pension and health benefit plans are operated and administered in accordance with ERISA and whether plan funds, operations, and financial investments are managed prudently. The full performance level of these positions is GS-12. These positions are inside the bargaining unit. Relocation expenses are not authorized.

This position is located in the Office of Policy and Research (OPR) of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). EBSA is responsible for administering and securing compliance with the provisions of title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), as well as certain provisions of the Internal Revenue Code and the Federal Employees Retirement System Act. OPR provides legal and economic research, analysis and procedural support to EBSA's regulatory and legislative policy activities.
