Dear Fellow Volunteers,

Millions of volunteers will serve in communities across the United States this month to recognize National Volunteer Week April 21 to 27 and Global Youth Service Day April 26 to 28.

These days of service are great opportunities for all of us to get out and volunteer in our communities.

CNCS CEO Wendy Spencer praises the power of young leaders for #GYSD

Join your fellow Americans in service by assisting your neighbors or helping through a civic, religious, or school group. Check out Serve.gov to find an opportunity near you.

In 2011, the number of volunteers reached its highest level in five years, as 64.3 million Americans volunteered through an organization.  Americans volunteered a total of almost 7.9 billion hours, an estimated economic value of roughly $171 billion.

These numbers mean volunteering makes an impact. To underscore this point, Wendy Spencer, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, recorded a video that puts the spotlight on young leaders and National Service members who are making a difference.

We hope this video inspires you to join us in making next week a week of giving back.

In Service,

The CNCS Team
