Supporting Our Nation's Veterans and Military Families Through Service
Dear Volunteer:
Greetings from the Corporation for National and Community Service. As spring begins, we know that many of you have been working several months now towards the volunteer goal you set in January. Thank you for all your service so far!
We also know that some of you may still be looking for just the right organization to volunteer with – or perhaps looking to take on something new! Have you thought about volunteering with an organization that serves veterans, military service members and/or their families?
On April 12, 2013 the Joining Forces initiative celebrated its 2nd anniversary. Co-founded by the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, Joining Forces works to partner with business and community to expand community-based and private sector employment, wellness, and educational services for veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.
In many communities across the country, members of the armed forces and their families are settling down to begin the transition from military service to civilian life. At the same time, communities are sending their loved ones to serve, or welcoming military families that are relocating to begin their next military service assignment.
Wherever these service members, veterans, and family members are, non-profit organizations and local, state and federal agencies have also formed to support and meet needs ranging from employment assistance to providing a cheery face to talk to while recovering from injury at a medical facility. Many of these organizations are looking for great people like you to volunteer!
If you are looking to volunteer with an organization that serves veterans, active duty military members and/or their family members thenvisit us hereto find an opportunity near you.
Thank you again for all that you are doing to make your communities better!
Best,
Wendy Spencer
