PSG's Autumn Newsletter
Welcome
Hello and welcome to the latest PSG newsletter. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the particularly good summer that we experienced this year.
We have seen significant staffing changes in the past few months with staff leaving/arriving. Whilst we have lost experienced members of the team, the new recruits are settling in well and working hard to learn our processes and procedures to enable us to continue a high quality service.
We encourage feedback, whether it be positive or negative so that we can continue to improve. We pride ourselves in obtaining glowing testimonials and rest assured we do not rest on our laurels.
Our team ethos is as strong as ever and I remain a very keen advocate of teamwork and this has been significantly identified recently through our organised charitable and social events. We also held our very first team away day which you can read about below.
Should you have any queries as we approach the winter then myself or any one of the team will be on hand to advise and support you 24/7.

Winter Advice
With winter fast approaching, PSG have put together a useful checklist to ensure your building is safe and secure during the cold weather. Read all about it here
Tech Severn
We attended the Tech Severn conference in July primarily to showcase our FARO 3D laser scanner and the various concepts in which it can be beneficial. Along with the support and assistance of our FARO representative, Jack Strongitharm, and his very impressive 360° virtual reality walker, our stand proved to be a crowd puller. The event was arranged to showcase the technical capabilities that local and national businesses, as well as Shropshire Council, have to offer to investors, partners and clients. Attendees had a significant interest in technology and how it could improve services and ultimately the lives of residents within the county boundary and surrounding neighbours. If you wish to find out more about our 3D scanning service, please contact us.
Defibrillator training
Heartstart Midlands gave defibrillator training for our first aider Katie Travis and also representatives from Woodlands, Trinity, Sundorne Infants and Harlescott Junior Schools. A life saved or a life lost, a defibrillator could be the difference.
Missed out on this lifesaving training? Give us a call and we can arrange another session.
Some of our summer projects
Long Mountain Primary School, building enhancements
Following the federation of three Shropshire schools, Long Mountain Primary School required building enhancements including the provision of an Early Years facility providing 24 places for children age 2 to 4 years, outdoor play area, a secure entrance to jointly serve both the EY facility and the main school. The project also required an additional mainstream classroom to accommodate 30 pupils with associated storage, an additional general purpose space, increased toilet provision and essential new circulation required for safe and adequate movement to and from the new areas.
Shifnal Primary School extension
Recent housing developments in Shifnal have generated increased pressure on school places at the two large primary schools in the town. Shifnal Primary in particular has seen a significant increase in demand with the result that 2 new classrooms were required.
Extending the main school buildings proved difficult and so a stand-alone 2 class block was built instead. This allowed more freedom in design and the new building incorporated a curved metal roof and a bright red render finish. Teaching spaces are spacious and airy with an open curved ceiling, plenty of natural light and good ventilation.
PSG welcomed the opportunity to design this bespoke building and believe it will provide a stimulating and high quality environment for the children at the school.
The Community College, Bishops Castle - refenestration
Phase 1 of Bishops Castle Community College refenestration project is well under way. The Staffroom and Languages block is now completed to a very high standard by HTL windows.
The works were finished on schedule and within budget.
Phase 2 is ready to start October half term.
Belvidere School - science room refurbishment
Daron Lewis designed and managed the science room refurbishment at Belvidere Secondary School.
It is a vast improvement on the previous layout and the staff and pupils are enjoying the space.
Oakmeadow Primary School - Ladybird Nursery
The nursery was ready to open for the new school year. PSG were commissioned to design and manage the alterations of the foundation stage area of the school to help create a new welcoming, engaging, safe and vibrant space for the toddlers to begin their education journey.
Market Drayton Infant School - toilets
New modern toilets have been installed at Market Drayton Infant School by G I Sykes. We hope the children like the vibrant colour scheme.
The Tannery - University student accommodation
Construction works to create new student accommodation in the heart of Shrewsbury will be completed soon. Our team are hard at work to help achieve the completion date.
Woodfield Infant School - playground
The playground was resurfaced to provide the children with
an improved play area, this project also included improvements to the drainage
which were carried out during the Easter holidays. The staff and pupils were
deciding what playground games and activities markings they want to complete the
project.

Fundraising
I Can Charlston Challenge
Helen Hale (seen on the left) took part in the 'I Can Charleston challenge' in September which saw 1,096 people hopefully dancing their way into the record books. There is now an anxious 6-10 week wait to see if they smashed the world record! All proceeds went to Severn Hospice.
MacMillan Bake Off
Once again we challenged the team to a bake off competition to raise money for MacMillan Cancer. Chris King won with her chocolate pavlova closely followed by Helen Hale's lemon layer cake. We raised £215 in total.
Severn Hospice Dragon Boat Race 2019
Will it be third time lucky and we reach the finals yet again? The team will be getting into training ready for 7th July. Details of our fundraising page will be included in the next edition.
