If you haven’t already, please remember to have your say on Birmingham City Council’s budget proposals for 2017+ by 18 January 2017. It’s really important you share your views. The council needs to make big savings – as well as big plans – so we want to know if we’re making the right choices for you and your family.

The government has increased financial support for the council’s efforts to prevent homelessness.

To help shoppers avoid scams and tricksters, the council’s trading standards team is reminding people of the 12 cons of Christmas

Cleaner Greener Streets
Don’t forget, there won’t be any refuse or recycling collections on Monday 26 December and Tuesday 27 December. If your collection is due on these days, find out when your next collections will be. You can also get tips on managing waste over Christmas.

Time’s running out on the £5 early bird discount for signing up to the 2017 garden waste service. It’s £35 if you sign-up by 31 December.

Health and wellbeing
With the festive season upon us, people are reminded to be aware of key warning signs of child sexual exploitation (CSE).

The council is encouraging Christmas revellers to stay safe and pre-book their taxis.

Travelling during the festive period
New rail winter timetables came into effect on 11 December.  Bus, train and tram timetables are subject to further change between Christmas and New Year, particularly over the bank holidays, so please check before you travel.

National Express Coach is operating an enhanced timetable until 2 January, including on Christmas Day. There are also some great offers available for cheaper travel on public transport and it saves the hassle and expense of parking.

Whilst every effort is made to cater for travel during this busy period, please be aware that there are several existing projects underway on our road network which may affect your journey, particularly around Paradise Circus. Get further information about current road works and closures.
