Bicycle Friendly Community Designation

We're finally getting our due -- Saint Paul has officially been named a Bicycle Friendly Community!  This award, bestowed by the League of American Bicyclists, recognizes communities that actively support cycling.  The Director of Public Works will formally accept this award on behalf of the City at the beginning of the Winter Cycling Workshop at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall next Tuesday evening.

Saint Paul Classic Bike Tour

Not only was the Saint Paul Classic Bike Tour a blast, as usual, it also reached an incredible waste diversion rate of 98%!  Congratulations to Eureka Recycling, the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota, the City of Saint Paul, and many volunteers who made this zero waste success possible!

Citywide Bike Plan: Online Survey Extension

The Citywide Bike Plan Open Houses and Survey Monkey have been a resounding success.  So far we’ve heard from over 250 people!  If one of those people isn’t you, there’s still time to make sure your voice is heard.  In honor of Fall Bike Walk Week, we’re extending the online survey by one more week, so tell us what you think and help shape our plan!  For more information on the bike plan, check out www.stpaul.gov/bikeplan.

Commuter Choice Awards

St. Paul Smart Trips, the city's Transportation Management Organization, is looking for individuals and organizations in St. Paul to nominate for recognition at this year's regional Commuter Choice Awards.  This is a great chance to gain regional recognition for efforts to get more cars off the road and improve the region's quality of life!  Nominations are due on Friday, October 7.

Partners in Preservation

Bike to and vote for your favorite Saint Paul landmark!  American Express has partnered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to bring Partners in Preservation to the Twin Cities, a program that will invest $1 million in bricks and mortar projects to preserve our cherished historic places based on votes from the public.  They've also made self-guided bike tours for checking out those sites.  Take a ride and vote for your favorite historic place once per day through October 12!

Upcoming Public Meetings

If you've been itching to get involved in some bike projects, now is your chance!  We have two active bikeway projects right now, on Griggs Street and Jefferson Avenue.  Both of these projects will have public meetings in October.  For Griggs Street, there will be meetings on October 3 (7:00-8:30pm at Dunning Recreation Center), October 9 (1:00-2:00pm at the intersection of Griggs Street and Summit Avenue, from there we will be riding bikes together north up the street), and October 11 (7:00-8:30pm at Dunning Recreation Center).  We will also have online options for feedback,  including this survey to help us understand issues on Griggs today.  The Jefferson Avenue meeting will be on October 25 (6:00-8:30pm at the Nativity Auditorium) and will be identical to the September 27 informational meeting.
