Governor Brown Holds Press Availability at 1:00 p.m. Today, November 6

(Salem, OR) — Governor Kate Brown will hold a press availability today to discuss Oregon's efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19. She will be joined by representatives from the Oregon Health Authority. The press availability will be today, November 6, at 1:00 p.m. A live stream will be available for the public here. Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) simulcasts will also be available. Teleconference information will be provided to all reporters who RSVP to participate remotely.

Governor Kate Brown extended COVID-19 state of emergency for an additional 60 days, until January 2, 2021. Read Executive Order 20-59 here.

OHA released COVID-19 wastewater monitoring data – The data shows where the virus is detected in small- to medium-sized communities around the state. Currently there are 29 communities participating on the project. The monitoring serves as an “early warning” system to tell us if COVID-19 is spreading silently in communities. OHA launched the project in the early fall with funding from the CDC. Read more here.

Oregon Department of Education (ODE) released updated school reopening metrics. ODE is releasing updated Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance, including updated metrics for returning to in-person instruction. Read more here.

Oregon Employment Department released updated NW Oregon Economic Indicators, including October 2020 economic and labor market data for Benton, Clatsop, Columbia, Lincoln, and Tillamook counties. Read more here.

Oregon has seen an increase in drug related deaths, especially as it relates to fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Comcast launched its Representation, Investment, Strength and Empowerment (RISE) initiative last week to boost struggling Black-owned businesses that may be stuck in survival mode. RISE aims to boost small, BIPOC-owned businesses with grants and in-kind resource donations and training over a three-year period.


KXCR 90.7 Radio Fireside Chat: Legislative Wrap up with Rep. Caddy McKeown

When the coronavirus hit us back in March, it became obvious that this would present a challenge unlike any we have ever faced Oregon. The impact of COVID-19 also cast a bright light on Oregon’s social, regional and racial divide.  So we created the KXCR 90.7 Fireside Chats -- designed to inform and educate our audience about issues faced by our state leaders in addressing the unforeseen challenges faced by workers and businesses most impacted by the pandemic. We will now utilize the program to gather more information about wildfires, access resources within Oregon state, local and tribal governments.
