Ohio leader in combined heat and power development
COLUMBUS, OHIO (Aug. 31, 2012)– Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) Chairman Todd A. Snitchler released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama signing an executive order encouraging investment in industrial energy efficiency and increased investment in combined heat and power (CHP).
“Ohio has been at the forefront of CHP development, and I’m encouraged this technology is receiving the additional attention it deserves,” stated Snitchler. “CHP offers industrial boiler owners and operators another way to meet their power needs through utilizing existing resources.”
Earlier this year the Ohio General Assembly and Governor John Kasich recognized the important role of CHP by allowing CHP to help satisfy energy efficiency standards with the passage of Senate Bill 315.
Additionally, this past February the PUCO teamed with the Department of Energy to facilitate dialog between regulators and potential CHP developers through a series of workshops with the goal of removing educational and regulatory barriers to CHP development.
On September 13, 2012 the PUCO will conduct the fourth in a series of workshops designed to help industrial boiler operators learn how combined heat and power can help them meet changing U.S. EPA Clean Air Act regulations.
