1st Week Recap

Parents,

We had a great first week at Amity! It was wonderful seeing all the smiling faces of our students as they came in excited to learn! Teachers are already digging into the curriculum with our students, after spending the first couple days building relationships and classroom routines. We can’t wait to see how much your child learns this year! Thanks again for making it a great start to the school year!

Thanks,
Josh

Arrival and Dismissal

The first week of drop off and pick up went well! We need to introduce a new procedure and give a couple of reminders as we start the school year.

New AM/PM Procedure for K-1:

For drop off and pick up of our K-1 students in front of our building, please do not pull up to the curb as this causes cars to become very close to students and staff. Please stay outside the white line on the ground to give a little extra space between the sidewalk and the cars.

New PM Procedure:

We will be adding preschool pick up on Monday, August 19th. Preschoolers will be picked up at 2:30 daily. Please do not pull into the front parking lot for K-1 pick up until after 2:40. We need to reserve these spaces for our preschool parents who have to come into the building and sign out their student. If you get here early, please wait in your car on Linden Avenue until 2:40.

AM Reminders:

Please don’t drop your student off prior to when our doors open, as we want to make sure supervision is in place should they need assistance. Breakfast is served starting at 7:30. Students should report to the back door by Linden Ave to enter into the cafeteria. All other doors open at 7:45 for walkers and car riders to enter.

Please help us remind your student that if they are walking to Amity that they need go to the crossing guard to help them cross the street. We have cars all around our campus and we want everyone to be safe in crossing the street.

PBIS Introduction

Amity has continued its PBIS program this school year to help teach and reinforce the positive behaviors we expect all Amity students to display.

The purpose of this program is to proactively establish, teach, and reinforce clear, common behavioral expectations and, in doing so, to encourage a sense of community in which we all play a positive role in our school’s success and safety. Amity has three key areas that we are focusing on:

Be Respectful. Be Responsible, Be Safe

On the first day of school, our school-wide expectations and positive acknowledgement system was implemented throughout the building including our classrooms, cafeteria, bathrooms, gym, hallways, playground, carpool, and the bus.

A system of acknowledgements, in the form of Cat cards and rewards, will help motivate students to do their best. We will review and practice our behavioral expectations daily as well as introduce the acknowledgement system to students.

We believe that by helping students engage in appropriate behavior, we will form a school community where all students have the opportunity to grow and succeed.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run

What is Girls on the Run?
Meeting twice a week in small teams, Girls on the Run teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding themselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and understanding how girls connect with and shape the world at large.

This is not a running club or competitive. Girls on the Run is a physical activity, positive youth development program.

What is the commitment?

Girls gather as a team with volunteer coaches twice per week, from September 9 – November 16. On November 16, all 100+ teams come together for the GOTR 5K downtown!

Because each lesson combines running activities with character development topics and builds upon the previous lesson, girls MUST be able to commit to BOTH days per week for the entire season. With a limited number of spots on each team, please only register your participant if you can make this commitment.
