Council Approves Schematic Design for Mordecai Historic Park Interpretive Center
The Raleigh City Council today approved the design concept for the Mordecai Historic Park Interpretive Center. In March, the City acquired the nearly half an acre of land and a 4,700 square-foot building at 1101 Wake Forest Road to serve as the center. The purchase price was $600,000. The property is adjacent to Mordecai Park.
The visitor center will be used for interpretive displays, offices and educational programs. The building design is intended to be in keeping with the historic context and architectural characters in the surrounding area. The first floor of the property will include a multi-purpose room, a reception area, gift shop, and exhibit galleries. The second floor will be used for archives and employee office space.
The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Greenway Advisory Board approved the schematic concept at its July 19 meeting. Construction on the building is expected to be completed in December of 2013.
