Parks & Gardens April ENews

Parks & Gardens strives to maintain and operate parks and facilities that enrich the lives of the community and promote an overall healthier lifestyle.

Farmers Market

Farmers' Market at Ogden Park
Parks & Gardens is excited to partner with Riverfront Farmers' Market Inc to host a new Wednesday Farmers' Market at Ogden Park beginning April 13th!  The market will run from 8am-1pm every Wednesday through November 16th, giving the community an additional opportunity to purchase fresh foods that are good for you like fruits, berries and vegetables.  Not only does the Farmers' Market give growers and producers a place to sell their products and educate consumers about local farming and seasonal eating, but it also provides a community activity that encourages social gathering and interaction.  Like our facebook page to get updates on vendors and healthy tips & recipes.

Hugh MacRae Park Updates

We are getting ready to start construction on the new inclusive playground at Hugh MacRae Park! The new playground- made possible by a $750,000 grant from Trillium Health Resources- will be built in place of the current playground.  The playground will include elements for children ages 2-5 and a separate area for ages 5-12.  The park will also include a splash pad and adult fitness stations.  Construction is expected to start the week of April 11th and finish in early June.  The current playground elements will be recycled and used at Northern Regional Park in Castle Hayne. More Info

A new outdoor basketball court is currently under construction at Hugh MacRae Park near the baseball fields.  The court will feature adjustable goals so it may be used by people of all ages and it will not require removal of the park's trees.
