Minneapolis Construction Update December 1 - 14, 2012

Construction Highlights for the Week of December 1 - 14

• New signal system activated at intersection of ramps and 3rd/4th Street; left turn from ramps into downtown Minneapolis or East Bank now permitted. -NEW
• Westbound lanes of Washington Avenue from East Bank to downtown Minneapolis reopened. -NEW
• New sidewalk east of Stadium Village Station open. -NEW
• All lanes open on University Avenue between 29th Avenue and Bedford Street. -NEW
• Northbound 29th Avenue open. -NEW
• New sidewalk on the east side of 29th Avenue open. -NEW
  

I-35W and Washington Avenue Interchange Area

• Westbound lanes of Washington Avenue from East Bank to downtown Minneapolis reopened. -NEW
• Hiawatha Bicycle Path between West Bank and downtown Minneapolis over I-35W detoured through 2013 Web Link (pdf)

East Bank– Mississippi River to Walnut Street

• No closures or detours due to Central Corridor construction.
• North and south sidewalk of Washington between Pleasant Street and the east pedestrian bridge closed; this area will remain closed throughout winter.
  

Stadium Village- Walnut Street to UMN Transitway

• No closures or detours due to Central Corridor construction.
• New sidewalk to the east of Stadium Village Station open.  -NEW
  

Prospect Park - 29th Avenue to Emerald Street

• All lanes open on University Avenue between 29th Avenue and Bedford Street. -NEW
• Northbound 29th Avenue open. -NEW
• No left turns to/from University Avenue and 29th Avenue; intersection will fully open to turns upon installation of traffic signal early this winter. 
• New sidewalk open on east side of 29th Avenue. -NEW
• Permanent north/south crosswalks at intersection of University Avenue and 29th Avenue remain closed; crosswalks will open upon installation of traffic signal early this winter. Temporary signalized pedestrian crossing west of the intersection will stay in place until final crosswalks are open.

About the project:  

The Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project will link downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis along Washington and University avenues via the state Capitol and the University of Minnesota. Construction began in late summer 2010 on the planned 11-mile Central Corridor line, and service will begin in 2014. The line will connect with the Hiawatha LRT line at the Metrodome station in Minneapolis and the Northstar commuter rail line at the Target Field Station. The Metropolitan Council will be the grantee of federal funds. The regional government agency is charged with building the line in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Central Corridor Management Committee, which includes commissioners from Ramsey and Hennepin counties, the mayors of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, provides advice and oversight. Funding is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, Counties Transit Improvement Board, state of Minnesota, Ramsey and Hennepin counties' regional railroad authorities, city of St. Paul, Metropolitan Council and the Central Corridor Funders' Collaborative.
