Precast concrete beams for the light rail bridge will be delivered to the Interchange construction site starting Wednesday, March 20. As the beams are set, the bridge piers (pictured above) will start to look more and more like a bridge and not separate columns.
The beams will be delivered between 7 p.m. - 3 a.m. throughout the next few weeks. Trucks will leave the manufacturing plant after 6 p.m., taking I-694 to I-94. The trucks will exit onto Washington Avenue, then come in along 10th Avenue North, continue onto Seventh Street North, and then make their final way onto the site from Sixth Avenue North.
The deliveries will not close city streets to traffic, disrupt Metro Transit bus operations, or impact the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center operations, nor will they occur during ballpark events.
Structural Steel Work on HERC Building Begins
Crews have been preparing the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center Administration Building for structural steel. The first couple loads of steel arrived on-site today (see below).
Erection of the steel building structure is anticipated to take place until the end of next week.
Other construction updates include:
- Pile driving operations continue and are more than 90 percent complete.
- The parking ramp walls are beginning to be formed.
- Sanitary sewer work is complete on Sixth Avenue North and the center lane is reopen to traffic.
