The
City of Bloomington and Human Rights Commission recently sponsored a workshop
highlighting trends in Bloomington’s demographics. The workshop was presented
by renowned Minnesota demographer Tom Gillaspy. According to Gillaspy, future
demographic trends include unprecedented increases in Minnesota’s 65 and older
population during this decade and the next. In addition, Bloomington will
continue to become more diverse with strong increases in Hispanic and

Human
Services will host Community Connections at Creekside Community Center on Wednesday, March 28
from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Representatives from Senior Community Services H.O.M.E.
program will share information on household and outside maintenance for
seniors. Loaves & Fishes advocacy and referral coordinator will be
available to provide general referrals. The Emergency Foodshelf Network will
share information on the Fare For All program and other food resources and will
host a food packet raffle. Human Services staff will be providing information
on the City’s curbside clean-up program along with general referrals.
 Learn
how to stay connected to friends and loved ones through social networking at a
special lunch event. This lunch will
take place on Monday, March 26 at 11:15 a.m. at Creekside. Liz
Lightfoot, Associate Professor & Director of the PH. D Program at the U of
M of Social Network Department will give an interactive presentation on the
many tools available for social networking including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,

Meal cost is a suggested contribution of $0 -3 for guests 60+ (NAPIS form
required) and $6 for guests under 60.
Human Services is
currently seeking volunteers to assist in serving at monthly special lunch events.
Corporate groups and individuals looking for ways to get involved in the
community are encouraged to apply. These special lunch events are held 2 times
per month at Creekside. Volunteer servers are needed 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Duties include bringing plates to the table, refilling
water and coffee pitchers, and clearing dishes.
