If you look up the next time you visit your local Secretary of State office, chances are you will see a new digital high-definition monitor broadcasting updates on SOS programs and services as well as news, sports headlines, weather information, and trivia.

The video service, provided at no cost to taxpayers, also has the capability to post real-time emergency announcements. This new service is being installed in many Secretary of State offices across Michigan thanks to a public-private partnership with the Motor Vehicle Network.

So the next time you pay us a visit, remember to look up!

Boating season will soon be upon us: Don’t miss a minute out on the water!

Between the Great Lakes and the more than 11,000 inland lakes and waterways that dot Michigan, it’s no wonder Michiganians tend to be boat crazy.

This March, the Secretary of State's Office is sending out more than 250,000 watercraft registration renewal notices and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is encouraging boat owners to take advantage of renewing online through ExpressSOS.com.

“Renewing online at www.ExpressSOS.com is a great timesaver,” Johnson said. “Our online system can be accessed through your home computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone any time of the day or night. Don’t miss a minute on the water!”

Watercraft registrations are issued for three years and expire on March 31 of the third year. For more info, visit www.Michigan.gov/sos.

Update on veterans' license designation

Bills that would allow Secretary of State Ruth Johnson to put a special veteran designation on the driver's licenses and state IDs of honorably discharged veterans are getting widespread support.

Michigan is home to more than 680,000 veterans and the special designation will provide them with clear-cut proof of their service and help them access the benefits they've earned. The bills, with bipartisan support, passed the House today and will go to the Senate for consideration. Click here to read more.
