The North American International Auto Show, celebrating Detroit, our state and something we do better than anyone else – cars – kicks off Jan. 19 and runs through Jan. 27 at Cobo Center.

Visit our full-service Secretary of State Mobile Office, on the concourse near the Oakland Hall entrance. You can get your tabs, renew your driver’s license and learn about Michigan’s organ donor registry. The Mobile Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends and noon to 6 p.m. weekdays. On Sunday, Jan. 27, the office will be open until 7 p.m. For more info, visit www.naias.com.


'Kelsey's Law' prohibits young drivers from talking on mobile phones

Parents of young drivers with a Graduated Driver License Level 1 or Level 2, take note! 

Beginning March 28, if your child uses a mobile phone while driving, he or she may be ticketed by a law enforcement officer and be prevented from advancing to the next licensing level.

Secretary Johnson joined 10-year-old Aiyana Wesley of Inkster, who is waiting for a heart transplant, at a recent news conference to highlight the need for people to join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry. Aiyana is featured in a new video called "Waiting to Live: Wayne County."

Johnson has made expanding Michigan’s organ donor lists a priority, from instituting new policies to partnering with Gift of Life Michigan and the Michigan Eye-Bank.

Deadline nears to register to vote in February election

Your community may have an upcoming local election on Feb. 26. The deadline to register to vote in the February election is Monday, Jan. 28. Visit the Michigan Voter Information Center at www.mich.gov/vote for more information or to see a sample ballot. (A smartphone version of the site also is available.)
