Reform Alert # 18 - Clarifying MPSERS Reform Election Eligibility

In order to be eligible for a retirement reform election in miAccount, a member:

  1. Must be in an active employer/employee relationship (e.g., working) with your reporting unit as of September 3, 2012, and,
  2. Must have accrued service (e.g., worked, earned hours and wages) with your reporting unit between 9/4/11 – 9/3/12, or be on a military or professional services leave of absence on 9/3/2012.

(Members who terminated from one reporting unit before 9/3/12, and who first worked with a different reporting unit on or after 9/4/12, are not eligible for an election and will not see any election screens when they log into miAccount. They are considered rehired and will keep the graded premium healthcare subsidy benefit; if they are a member of the Basic or MIP plan, their contribution level will not change and they will receive the 1.25 multiplier for service worked on and after 9/4/12.)

On your validation list on the Reporting Website, members will appear as Active if they are eligible for an election via miAccount. Members will appear as Inactive if they are inactive and/or ineligible for an election via miAccount. Members who first worked after 9/3/12, will not be listed on the validation file.
