Reform Alert # 5 - Validate Your Active Employees – Action Required During Election Window

Governor Snyder has signed Senate Bill 1040 into law and the window for active members to elect a pension and/or health election is now open. We need your help to make sure that ORS continues to have the most current data for our members. This will allow ORS to send accurate retirement related information to the right people.

You validated your active employees earlier this summer for employees still active as of July 15, 2012. However, Senate Bill 1040 modified the eligibility period. The period includes any active member at your reporting unit that has earned service credit for the 12 month period of September 4, 2011, to September 3, 2012. As a result, ORS needs you to provide any changes to employer/employee relationships as of October 26, 2012 (end of election window).

If you have a new member that first worked prior to September 4, 2012 please make sure that they are added as Active on your list. ORS has already added members that have been reported to us by August 20, 2012. If there is a member on the current list that has been/will be terminated by October 26, 2012 please make sure to update their status to Inactive and provide a termination date. ORS has already removed any members that last worked prior to September 4, 2011.

The list is available on the Employer Reporting website. We are requesting that you continue to update the list and confirm the status of each employee on the list throughout the election window. Please make sure to provide as much detail as possible with dates and comments. This will help to reduce the number of times that our office has to contact your reporting unit for follow-up information.
