Michigan Historical Commission elects new officers
During its recent annual meeting, the Michigan Historical Commission elected new officers for the 2012-2013 year. Commissioner Jack Dempsey of Plymouth was elected president; Commissioner Kimberly Johnson of Pontiac was elected as vice president.
Dempsey is a member at the law firm of Dickinson Wright PLLC in its Ann Arbor office. He has served on the commission since 2007. Johnson is founder and president of Kimberly Consulting Inc., where she specializes in project and campaign management for nonprofit organizations. She was appointed to the commission by Governor Rick Snyder in February 2012.
Since 1913, the Michigan Historical Commission has been the public agency for state history programs and is responsible for approving Michigan Historical Markers. The 10-member commission includes seven appointments made by the governor, and one each by the speaker of the House and the Senate majority leader, with the director of the Department of Natural Resources an ex officio member.
The Michigan Historical Commission advises the Department of Natural Resources on Michigan history and the work of the Michigan Historical Center. For more information about the commission, visit www.michigan.gov/mhcommission.
