‘Montgomery Moving Forward’ Coalition to Call for Radical Shift to Single County Authority for Coordination of Workforce Development in Montgomery County
Diverse Leadership Group Calls for Accountability to Ensure Pipeline of Qualified Workers Will be Available to Fill Good Jobs of the Future
WHAT: In the face of data pointing to an unmistakable shortage of skilled workers over the next 20 years and too many residents unable to have and hold a good job, Montgomery Moving Forward will issue a “Call to Action: Fueling our Future with Skilled Workers and Good Jobs” that calls for a new accountability for a “jobs culture” in Montgomery County. With endorsements from scores of business, community, education and local government leaders, the group will urge elected officials to begin immediately to create a single workforce development authority charged with closing the gap between good jobs and the supply of skilled employees to fill those jobs that are essential to a functioning and thriving economy.
Montgomery Moving Forward is issuing its recommendations after 18 months of study and working together to find practical solutions to one of the county’s biggest problems. The Call to Action details specific steps to be taken over the next two years.
